World champion waterskier Sarah Teelow is fighting for life after crashing as she hit speeds of 140km/h on the Hawkesbury River yesterday in a Bridge to Bridge competition.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Sarah Teelow, 21, the daughter of two-time world champion Tania Teelow was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital after falling near the Mooney Mooney Bridge shortly before 10am.
Her condition was last night critical, the report said.
A friend of Sarah Teelow, who witnessed the crash, said her helmet filled up with water, keeping her head submerged for minutes and it is understood the fall may have broken her vertebrae, the report added.
The accident comes about two months after she was crowned champion in the Formula 2 category at the World Water Ski Racing Championships in Spain, the report further said.
