Former Australia cricketer and National selector Mark Waugh has withdrawn his statement that a deadline has been fixed for picking the first- Test squad against India for 'marketing purpose'.

Waugh stated that ideally it is expected to consider the second round of Sheffield Shield matches before making a final decision, but anyways selectors haven't made that decision. However, Waugh told Cricket Australia team performance manger Pat Howard later that he should have instead used the word 'logistics', the News.co.au reported.

Howard rejects these claims by stating that the decision to pick the squad two weeks before was made in view of giving the team time for best possible preparation. He further said that players are chosen not on the basis of a performance in a single match but examines consistent performance over a period of time.
