World number three Stan Wawrinka will kick off his 2017 campaign in Australia when he makes his debut at the Brisbane International in January, the tournament organizers have confirmed.
Excited to make his debut in Brisbane, the Swiss star believes it was the right time to change up the start of his season, Sport24 reported.
"I'm excited to be heading to the Brisbane International for the first time in my career. I've heard such great things about the event and it feels like the right time to change up the start of my season," said Wawrinka, who will join Spanish maestro Rafael Nadal and women's world No. 1 Angelique Kerber in the Australian Open lead-up tournament.
Wawrinka will head into the year-opening tournament after beating world number one Novak Djokovic for his third Grand Slam title at the US Open and reaching his highest-ever ranking behind the Serbian and Briton Andy Murray.
The Brisbane International is slated to be held from January 1 to January 8.
