The Indian Coast Guard rescued Bangladeshi fishing boats Allar-dan with 15 men and Farhad with 16 crew members, after it became non-operational due to engine failure in mid seas.

The rescue operation was undertaken during bad weather which had developed owing to the low pressure off the West Bengal coast on 16-17 August.

The crew of Allar-dan were shifted to a local fishing boat and Farhad with 16 crew members were towed to Frazerganj with the help of local fishing boats.

The fishermen were provided food and required medical assistance by Indian Coast Guard.

The entire operation was coordinated by Coast Guard Regional HQ (NE)

"Coast Guard is maintaining enhanced vigil in view of the extremely rough sea conditions and we are ever prepared to render any kind of assistance to seamen in distress." HQ, Inspector General KR Nautiyal said.
