Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao on Thursday said that the party did not associate with Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj's controversial remarks adding that the latter's views were personal.
"We had made it very clear that those comments were Sakshi Maharaj's own views. These are not the views of BJP or the Government of India. The party does not associate itself with these remarks," said Rao.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Nalin Kohli too disassociated the party's thinking from the leader's statement.
"What Sakshi Maharaj has said is not BJP's thinking or government's policy, it is his personal comment," said Kohli.
Address a gathering on the occasion of Sant Samaagam Mahotsava in Meerut earlier on Tuesday, Sakshi Maharaj had said the concept of four wives and 40 children will not work in India and added that the time has come when a Hindu woman must produce at least four children in order to protect Hindu religion.
The BJP MP, who was earlier at the centre of a controversy when he described Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse as a 'patriot', emphasized that it is necessary for Hindus to increase their progeny to protect the religion.
