Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphatically stated that his government has a zero-tolerance policy towards terror, distancing himself from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's controversial statement regarding the recently held elections in the state.
"The Jammu and Kashmir government has been formed on the basis of a Common Minimum Agenda. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and we have placed our faith in the people of Jammu and Kashmir. I want to assure the people that we will follow the resolutions passed in Parliament with respect to Jammu and Kashmir in both letter and spirit,"
"In no way can I support Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's statement with regards to the elections," he added.
On Sunday, Sayeed had stoked a controversy by stating that the Hurriyat, Pakistan and militants had allowed a conducive atmosphere for the recently held assembly polls in the state, leading to an expression of outrage by the opposition, with leaders of the Congress staging a walkout from the Lok Sabha.
