The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday, acknowledging the high expectations placed on its shoulders by the people of Delhi, expressed confidence in fulfilling the latter's hopes.
"I think today is a historic day in Indian history. I think it's historic because the people of Delhi have shown that honest politics is possible. The people have shown that an ordinary person, a common person can become the chief minister of Delhi. What you see over here is just the fact that honest people, people with good intentions can get into politics and change the system," AAP leader Atishi Marlena told ANI.
"The expectations are very high. The people of Delhi have elected us with a historic mandate. So, therefore, the burden of those expectations is on our shoulders. But, we hope that we can rise to the occasion," she added.
Actor-turned-AAP activist Gul Panag echoed those views, stating that the party was grateful for the 'massive' mandate given by the people.
"Very grateful to the people of Delhi for giving us so much love, which translated into such a massive mandate. We are deeply aware and cognizant of the responsibility on the shoulders of this young party and I am confident that we will be able to fulfil that responsibility," she said.
Earlier in the day, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal took oath as the eighth chief minister of Delhi. The 46-year-old is the youngest chief minister of the national capital.
