The wearable computing market will reportedly see 19.2 million wearable units shipped out throughout 2014, according to IDC forecast.
The global market will swell to 111.9 million units in 2018, resulting in a CAGR of 78.4 percent and complex accessories like Nike+ FuelBand, Jawbone UP, and Fitbit devices are expected to lead the market through 2018 as users continue to embrace their simplicity and low price points, Enterprise Innovation reported.
Ramon Llamas, research manager on Mobile Phones at IDC said that complex accessories have succeeded in drawing much-needed interest and attention to a wearables market that has had some difficulty gaining traction.
Llamas added that end-users have warmed to their simplicity in terms of design and functionality, making their value easy to understand and use.
Meanwhile, the report added that the smart accessories segment is seen gaining momentum through the forecast period and surpassing complex accessory shipments by 2018.
