A Welsh university's cricket team has reportedly been banned from competing and had its funding withdrawn after one of its players was seen wearing a T-shirt with the words 'casual rape' printed on the back.

Although Aberystwyth University's cricketers had sparked rage by wearing individualised pink T-shirts with a variety of messages on the back during a night out, the 'casual rape' T-shirt led to a disciplinary panel ruling that the team had broken the code of conduct and brought the university into disrepute.

According to Metro.co.uk, a university officer said that sexual harassment is not tolerated by the university's student union, adding that all affiliated sports clubs and societies should understand the severity of this case and any further incidents of the kind will be dealt with in the same manner.

Apologising for the conduct of its team, a spokesman for the cricket club insisted that they have understood the severity of the situation, adding that steps are being undertaken to ensure that no further offence is caused.
