Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has expressed his delight at his side's 2-0 victory over high-flying Southampton in the Premier League, saying that the three points they gained with the win will be key at the end of the season.
Arsenal went four points clear at the top of the Premier League following their win over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, with Olivier Giroud scoring in either half to ensure a hard-fought success.
According to the Mirror, Wenger said that he is happy at the win as they were against a good team and they showed why they made good results before, adding that had Southampton won, they would have been level with Arsenal at the top of the league.
Giroud gave the hosts the lead in the first half following a calamitous mistake from Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc, following which the striker added a second to his tally from the penalty spot five minutes from time, after Jose Fonte was deemed to have fouled Per Mertesacker in the area.
The win, which followed Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Everton earlier in the day, extended Arsenal's lead, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all in action later this weekend, the report added.
