In a major operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday seized 60 gold biscuits in Hakimpur Border Outpost Area in Kolkata.
Inspector General, BSF, South Bengal Frontier, said, "Specific information was received regarding smuggling of gold. Following that, we planned and laid a special ambush near Sonai River water point. The miscreant managed to escape leaving the bag behind."
"Items recovered are; 60 blocks of gold biscuits weighing approximately seven kgs. The market value of the gold is- Rs 1,99,79,640," the police added.
Seized gold biscuits have been handed over to the customs office for further investigation.
So far in 2017, BSF South Bengal Frontier has seized 27.738 Kgs of gold of approximately value of Rs. 8,00,68,879/- and so far nine gold smugglers have been held.
