What Indians think about living and working in Australia

The Indian Community living in Australia finds it a great country to live and work in, but those who have migrated with their families tend to have a rougher start, a new study has revealed.

The study conducted by Aei4eiA revealed that the Indian community is one of the fastest growing communities in Australia constituting about 2 percent of the Australian population.

Cardiologist and President, Indian Australian Association of NSW (INDAUS) Inc, Dr. Yadu Singh said that Australia is a great country to live and work and he doesn't believes it to be a racist nation, however, he recognizes that there are some people who hold racist views, just like any other country of the world.

 

The research found that majority of the respondents appreciated the quality of life, egalitarian society, good healthcare and education system, organised systems/procedures and beauty of the natural environment in Australia.

However, those who migrated either for prospect of a better future or joining their family did not have a smooth start as they couldn't secure quality jobs are per their qualifications and capabilities.

On the other hand, those who came here for 'work or business' had a relatively smoother start.

Director, Bellsoft Technologies Pty Ltd, Past President, United Indian Association (UIA), Vice President, National Sikh Council of Australia, Mr. Amarinder Bajwa said that the country has a sense of accountability, systems, procedures and access of common man to the facilities be it health, law and more, but the immigration laws should be fairer.

Bajwa pointed that there are some who are PhD holders and well-educated people from the Indian community had to drive taxi to meet ends.

Senior Manager, (Economic Policy), Department of Treasury and Finance, Government of Victoria, Australia, Dr. Sanjeev Sabhlok, said that Australian-Indians can contribute significantly by becoming a link between the two countries.
