An annual survey has declared 'whatever' as the most irritating word for the fifth year running, followed by 'like'.
The Marist Poll found that 38 percent of Americans are particularly annoyed by the use of the word 'whatever', the Washington Times reported.
The second position on the list was taken up by 'like' with 22 percent votes.
Runners-up included 'Just saying' and 'obviously'.
The results mirrored 2012's survey where 'whatever' topped the list of most annoying words with 32 percent.
