Former Pakistani coach Dav Whatmore has said that the Pakistani players need more support and less criticism if they are to improve more as a team.
Whatmore, who represented Australia as a middle-order batsman in seven Test matches and a solitary ODI, was appointed as Pakistan's head coach in 2012 after coaching stints with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and till his resignation in Feb 2014, he oversaw Pakistan through a Asia Cup win, ODI series win vs. India and South Africa and a failed Champions Trophy campaign.
According to www.PakPassion.net, Whatmore believes Pakistani players need more support and less criticism, and called on them to adopt the mentality of looking after themselves as it is important for their survival given that certain cities are more interested in promoting their players rather than seeking an united national team.
Whatmore further said that Pakistani players could rarely relax in terms of feeling secure in relation to selection, which makes it difficult for them to perform consistently, adding that more encouragement and support from the right people would go a long way in solving this problem.
