Popular messaging service WhatsApp is reportedly set to add voice calls to iOS and Android platforms in the second quarter of this year.

The now 465-million-user strong service was acquired by social networking giant Facebook this week for a whopping 19 billion dollars.

According to The Verge, the addition of voice calls to its service would only enhance the app's popularity for being an inexpensive messaging service.

The voice calls would be free of charges for a limited time, but would eventually be priced the usual 0.99 dollars per year subscription.

The report said that the voice-calling feature on Windows devices and BlackBerry would be expanded later after iOS and Android debut.
