The White House was briefly in lock down after an unauthorised vehicle raised security alarm after entering a restricted area near the US president's residence.
A vehicle trailed behind the Obama daughters' motorcade as car barriers were lowered on Pennsylvania Avenue.
According to the BBC, the driver, Mathew Evan Goldstein, 55, was arrested and city police checked the car for explosives. He has been charged with unlawful entry.
The US Secret Service said that the driver was an employee of the US Department of Treasury.
The lockdown, which began shortly after 16:40 local time, lasted about half an hour.
