Martin Whitmarsh has reportedly stepped from the position of McLaren's team principal after spending 24 years with the team.
He held the positions of the head of operations, managing director and chief executive officer before he took over the mantle of team principal from Ron Dennis in 2009, reported the BBC.
Dennis had earlier taken control of the team when he was appointed Chief Executive Officer in January.
A McLaren spokesman said that Whitmarsh and the team are parting ways amicably.
Dennis and Whitmarsh were involved in a dispute for about two years during which the former tried to remove his protege from his position several times.
McLaren currently stands fifth in team rankings with seven races remaining in the 2014 season.
