Former US President Bill Clinton had reportedly smashed a mirror in a fit of rage when hosting rights for the 2022 FIFA World Cup were awarded to Qatar.
Media reports have claimed that Clinton returned to the Savoy Baur en Ville hotel in Zurich, Switzerland after the ceremony, closed the door of his suit, grabbed a table ornament and threw it at a mirror on the wall.
According to News.com.au, a British media source revealed that Clinton had been fuming, adding that the former US President felt humiliated, and felt that the decision did not make sense.
Clinton, who was the honorary chairman of America's bid to host the 2022 World Cup, had reportedly spent two years in trying to woo support from FIFA members, while defending himself from challenges from Japan and Australia, but he had not expected to lose to Qatar.
FIFA is currently being urged to strip Qatar of the rights to host the 2022 World Cup, because of British media obtaining secret documents that allegedly show corrupt payments made to football officials in return for supporting Qatar's bid, the report added.
If FIFA strips Qatar of hosting the World Cup, the US and Australia might end up competing with each other again once more for the hosting rights, the report further added.
