Scientists have found that women are more likely to wear read colour when they are at their most fertile.
Scientists asked 124 women, aged 18 to 47, what colour shirt they were wearing and when their last menstrual cycle was and found an association between the peak of fertility and their choice to wear red, Stuff.co.nz reported.
According to experts, consciously or subconsciously wearing red clothing could be seen as an attempt to draw attention.
Clare Hetzel, a psycho-sexologist at Psychology Melbourne said that given women's brief fertile window, wearing red could be explained as an adaptive mechanism, dressing in a way that increases sexual attractiveness to men specifically during this period.
She said that additionally the hormones linked with ovulation make women feel sexier during peak fertility, which results in their inclination to wear clothing with attention-grabbing properties.
