A scientist has revealed why nacho cheese Doritos is so addictive.

Steven A Witherly, a food scientist and the author of 'Why Humans Like Junk Food,' said that the chips have the powerful savoury flavour known as umami - "long hang-time flavours" - like garlic, which create a lingering smell that stimulates memories, the New York Post reported.

He also revealed that lactic and citric acids, gets the saliva flowing triggering the impulse to eat.

Another ingredient in the chip, buttermilk, delivers even more lactic acid.

The chips also contain the three artificial colourings that have been showed to attract consumers and these ingredients have been ground so finely that the powder fills every nook and cranny of your mouth. (ANI)
