Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales believes that free access to educational material could save a lot of lives, and has launched a project known as Wiki Zero to do the same.
Speaking at the Institute of Directors annual convention Wales said with the thousands of preventable deaths are occurring in developing countries, there was need for access to medical information, the Independent reported.
He added that the outbreak of Ebola in Africa was such an example, and wrong reports about supposed cures or vaccinations for the disease were responsible for causing deaths.
Wiki Zero, which lobbies mobile carriers in developing countries to offer the online encyclopedia for free and has already been adopted by mobile operators in counties such as China and India.
