Will Smith has revealed that he had to pass the role of 'Django' in Quentin Tarantino's award winning 'Django Unchained' as he had wanted the movie to be a 'love story' and not a vengeance story.

In an interview with a magazine, Smith said that it was about the creative direction of the story, adding "to me, it's as perfect a story as you could ever want a guy that learns how to kill to retrieve his wife who has been taken as a slave," News.com.au reports.

However, the 47-year-old revealed that he met with Quentin Taratino, the director, for hours, but they still couldn't come to an agreement on how the story should be narrated.

Eventually, Jamie Foxx played the role of 'Django' and the film went ahead to win two Academy Awards in 2013.
