Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday said the government will try to introduce the Telengana Bill during the Winter Session of Parliament, after all parties agreed to it, at the all-party meet chaired by Speaker Meira Kumar.
'All political parties have agreed with the government on the Telengana Bill, and, so we will try to introduce it as soon as possible," said Nath after the all-party meet.
"One of the main suggestions that emerged was that we should extend the session with a provision for a small break in between. The Lok Sabha members represented this. We will be having discussions with Rajya Sabha members and, the members of northeast and south, also. We will see if there is a consensus that can be arrived at," he further added.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the opposition has demanded for an extension of the session with a small break during Christmas after the meet.
"Telengana Bill should be introduced in the parliament in this session. Lokpal Bill is supposed to be introduced from Rajya Sabha. We have requested the Parliamentary Affairs Minister to introduce it in the Rajya Sabha so that it could be amended, and then introduced in the Lok Sabha," she added.
She also said the price rise will be on the opposition's agenda and they will demand a discussion on it in Parliament.
"We want discussions on the price rise first, and that too, relating to vegetables, diesel and petrol. Other than this, crime against women will also be important issue. Thirdly, we want a discussion on the Joint Parliamentary Committee report on the 2G scam,"
CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said the Left will move an adjournment motion on the first day of the session.
"On the first day of the session, the Left will move an adjournment motion on the issue of price rise. Secondly, we want a discussion on the joint parliamentary committee report. The report on 2G is playing fraud, and, is totally blind to the facts of life. We hope the government will listen to us," he said.
"The entire opposition disagreed with the government that the session should be of 12 days. We unanimously recommended an extension to the session. There maybe an extension with a small break during Christmas," Dasgupta said.
The Winter Session of Parliament will commence from December 5 and last till December 20.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath said on Monday that the government is determined to push through the Lokpal Bill and the Women's Reservation Bill during the session.
Nath also informed that all parties are in agreement that the session will continue for extended hours to expedite pending work.
He also said leaders of all political parties have assured that session will run smoothly.
