Kane Williamson became the number one-ranked Test batsman as New Zealand secured the two-match series 2-0 after comprehensively defeating Sri Lanka by five wickets on day four of the second match in Hamilton on Monday.

Resuming at the overnight position of 142-5 and requiring another 47 for victory, New Zealand wrapped up the match under an hour without losing another wicket, with Williamson remaining unbeaten on 108 and BJ Watling unbeaten on 13, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Williamson, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, capped off a remarkable year by setting a new record for scoring most number of Test runs by a New Zealand batsman in a calendar year. He accumulated a staggering 1172 runs for his nation in 2015.

The 25-year-old prolific batsman has also scored a test double century, four other centuries and four half-centuries in this season.

With the win, New Zealand have extended their winning streak in home Tests to 13.

New Zealand will now take on Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series and two Twenty20 matches to follow.
