West Indies advanced to the semifinals of the World Twenty20 after defeating South Africa by three wickets in their thrilling penultimate league game in Nagpur on Friday.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the West Indies bowlers produced a disciplined performance to restrict South Africa to 122 for eight in their stipulated 20 overs.

Subsequently, West Indies chased down the target with two deliveries remaining despite losing star batsman Chris Gayle early and enduring a middle-order collapse.

Marlon Samuels was the top scorer for his side with a run-a-ball 44, while opener Johnson Charles made a crucial 32 off 35 balls.

Meanwhile, South Africa face elimination and will now have to rely on England beating Sri Lanka on Saturday and then beating Sri Lanka themselves on Monday to stand any chance of progressing in the tournament.
