A painting by Sir Winston Churchill titled 'The Goldfish Pool at Chartwell' has fetched 1.8 million pounds at recently held auction in Sotheby's, London.
'The Goldfish Pool at Chartwell', which depicts the pond at Churchill's Kent home, was painted in 1932 and had been given an estimated value of 400,000 pounds - 600,000 pounds, the BBC reported.
Sotheby's described the painting as "undoubtedly Churchill's masterpiece from the decade" and "a striking manifestation of the artist at his very best".
The previous auction record for one of Churchill's paintings was 1 million dollars.
Churchill was Britain's Prime Minister during World War II and he died in 1965.
