The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday took suo-moto cognizance of a case in which a woman was allegedly beaten up inside a train by a passenger who was in an inebriated condition.
Travelling in the general coach of Jallianwala Express, the passenger started beating the woman after she objected to him smoking in the train.
Reports about the incident surfaced on Sunday. The NCW has written to the police, asking them to apprise it of the action taken in the matter.
