A UK woman has claimed that taking "selfies" of her near-naked body in public places and posting the pictures online has changed her life, as they helped her realise how beautiful she is.

For an experiment, called the 'Be Beautiful' Project, Denise Jolly, who weighs in at 141kg, photographed herself for an entire month, News.com.au reported.

Jolly said that she spent two hours a day to learn what her body looks like in its entirety, while inviting the belief that it is beautiful exactly as it is.

Jolly, an artist, educator and activist, asserted that through the process, she found out that she is indeed desirous, powerful, beautiful and capable of stepping into brilliance, completely rooted in love and possibility.

The 34-year-old said that growing up in a poor, suburban, white, American culture had shaped her belief systems, which were "steeped in shame and invisibility."

Jolly added that there was no better way to challenge those internalized beliefs than to examine images of her body on a social network setting, a place completely at the intersection of her given family, people she grew up with, people who only know her in the context of art, and her current chosen family.
