Women's SAARC conference in Kathmandu opens with SAARC anthem

Nepal recently hosted the "Conference on democracy and inclusive good governance for gender equality and sustainable development in South Asia" in capital Kathmandu.

The programme opened with the SAARC anthem, a song penned by Kathmandu-based Indian diplomat Abhay Kumar.

Nepal's education minister Chitralekha Yadav inaugurated the three-day long event organized jointly by the South Asia Women's Network (SWAN), Stri Shakti and the Nepal based NGO, SEARCH.

Various women leaders from the eight SAARC countries took part in the conference and discussed various issues concerning women and the problem of gender discrimination in the SAARC countries.
