World No.1 Tiger Woods is reportedly targeting his sixth victory of the season to become the PGA Tour Player of the Year with this week's Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
Although the 14-time Major winner has not claimed a major title since the 2008 US Open, he is one of the five players in the elite field of 30 who can land overall playoff honours and the ten million-dollar bonus with victory this week a s he is the top seed in the FedEx Cup points standings going into the PGA Tour season finale.
According to Sport24, Woods feels that his 2013 campaign has been one of the most consistent of his career with two wins in the prestigious World Golf Championship events, saying that he would like to secure his sixth win of the season to secure the Player of the Year accolade.
Expressing his excitement to be back at East Lake, Woods also said that he has had successful playoffs and has got to the No.1 spot coming into the Tour Championship, although he added that he may have a tough battle on his hand against Masters champion Adam Scott and British Open winner Phil Mickelson for the honours.
However, Woods said that he is confident of achieving success as even though Scott and Mickelson have won a couple of times, he has won five times this season.
Woods, who has the best scoring average this season with 68.87, has won PGA Tour Player of the Year honours ten times and the Vardon Trophy (best scoring average) on eight occasions, the report added.
