Former World No. 1 Tiger Woods just managed to make the cut with a birdie on the final hole as he scored a second round 77 in the Open Championship at the Royal Liverpool.

Woods, who won at Hoylake in 2006, started the day at three-under-par but dropped three shots in his first two holes.

Woods picked up 14 straight pars and drove out of bounds on the 17th, which resulted in a triple bogey, The BBC reported.

However, the 14-time major winner came up with a four on the par five 18th to draw level with the two over cut mark.

Woods heads into the weekend 14 shots behind Rory McIlroy despite having trailed the Northern Irishman by three shots after day one.

Woods said that he did not hit the driver very good, adding that it was not a very good round as he got off to a terrible start again.

The former world number one said that he had some opportunities to get back to even par for the day but he just never did.

Woods also admitted that it is not a surprise what McIlroy is doing as the golfer has won both of his majors by eight shots, but the American added that he has two rounds to go and maybe he could do something like Paul Lawrie did in 1999 and make up 10 shots in a day.
