The writers and artists, who have been staying at the Rashtrapati Bhavan since September 8 as part of the three-week 'In-Residence' programme, called on President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, President Mukherjee said that he hoped that the opportunity to stay in the Rashtrapati Bhavan would ignite their creativity and sharpen their skills. He also stated that these writers and artists were now part of the extended family of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The President further said that the objective of the programme was to enable writers and artists to be a part of the life in Rashtrapati Bhavan and stay in an atmosphere where they are in perfect harmony with nature.
The 'In-Residence' programme was launched by the President on December 11 last year to encourage artistes by facilitating them habitation close to nature in the picturesque and serene surroundings of Rashtrapati Bhavan to provide an environment which will inspire creative thinking.
Yishey Doma Bhutia, Dr Vempalli Gangadhar, Rahool Saksena and Pratap Sudhir Morey are the current writers and artists to benefit from this programme.
