The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday alleged that wrong economic policies, bad and corrupt governance and visionless leadership have been the prime policy of the Congress.
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari hit back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over his remark that the farmers abuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"It is actually the Congress, which is abused by the farmers. It has been 68 years since independence. From Pandit Nehru to Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi all have talked about the farmers, whereas in reality they have just fooled the common man and looted them," said Gadkari.
"They have made the farmers suffer. They are responsible for farmer suicides. Wrong economic policies, bad and corrupt governance and visionless leadership have been the prime policy of the Congress," he added.
Gadkari took the opportunity to justify the Land Acquisition Act.

"We had decided that when a farmer would lose his land, one member of his family would get a job. This is a decision made for the first time by the BJP," Gadkari said.
He also said that the idea of land acquisition was only for improving the rural infrastructure.
Gadkari emphasised on the need for rain-water harvesting.
"A country like Israel that gets only six centimeter rainfall saves 100 percent of it. But in our country, we are only able to save 25-30 percent of the rain water. The rest flows into the sea. If we save this water, there will be 'sujalam sufalam' and no farmer will have to commit suicide," he added.
Meanwhile, Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu hit back at the Congress vice-president for his unwarranted comment blaming the BJP for taking away the farmers' land.
