Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un on his election as the chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).
Xi also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on behalf of CPC and in his own name said he hoped that the ruling party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will achieve new accomplishments in the cause of building socialism under the leadership of Kim, reports Xinhua.
Asserting that China-DPRK friendship was personally forged and carefully fostered by the two countries' leaderships of the older generation, Xi said that the traditional friendship was a treasure of both sides.
He also noted that the CPC and the Chinese government attach great importance to the ties between both nations.
The Chinese President said that his country stands ready to work with Pyongyang to promote the constant development of bilateral relations for the benefit of both countries and to make positive contributions to safeguarding peace, stability and development in the region.
