Separatist leader Yasin Malik staged a protest here on Friday with family members of missing people in the state, and asked the government to find out their whereabouts on the World Disappearance Day.

Yasin Malik, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), alleged they were picked up the Indian security forces.

"I appeal to their dead conscience, who championed the cause of the rights of the people. Indian forces have arrested members of these 10,000 families. They don't know whereabouts of their loved ones," he said.

The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) urged the government to take steps to inquire into their disappearance, and added that the guilty should be brought to justice.
