Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) V.K. Singh on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appreciating his efforts in the evacuation of civilians from strife-torn Yemen.

General (Retd.) Singh later told the media that he was extremely pleased to fulfill the task assigned to him.
"I salute people that worked there. My work was to evacuate people, and I am satisfied that I did my work," General (Retd.) Singh said.
"42 years of service in the army has taught me this. Do your work, do your best," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day praised the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for their commendable job.
"A minister of the government went there, and I salute General V K Singh for his efforts. You might have seen on social media, if someone tweets Sushmaji, she replies even if it is at 1 a.m. Could you have imagined or ever seen the Ministry of External Affairs working like that?" Prime Minister Modi said while addressing a workshop for BJP lawmakers here.
"In Yemen, there was bombardment for 24 hours. They were ready to kill. And every day, for two hours, we got the bombing stopped and we evacuated Indians. Who were these people in Yemen? They were all labourers and nurses," he added.
The total number of Indians evacuated from Sana'a by air has crossed 2,900 by 18 special flights since the beginning of the air operations.
Indian naval vessels have also evacuated over 1,670 Indians from Aden, Al Hudaydah and Al Mukalla ports in Yemen since March 31.
Indian Naval Ship INS Sumitra evacuated 349 persons, including 46 Indians and 303 foreign nationals, from Al Hudaydah port on April 9.

The entire evacuation effort has resulted in the evacuation of over 5600 persons. These include over 4,640 Indian nationals and about 960 foreign nationals from 41 countries.
