Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation on All India Radio in the ninth edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday, expressed his gratitude over the International Yoga Day celebrations, noting that the event was observed across the world.

"The rays of the sun were welcomed by yoga all over the world on Yoga Day on June 21. On June 21, when I saw glimpses of UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon doing yoga the UN headquarters, I felt very happy. I am also happy that the armed forces joined in the Yoga Day celebrations," Prime Minister said.

"The world is keen to know more about India: our values, our traditions and our culture," he added.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and its efforts in the observance of Yoga Day.

"Our country has an AYUSH department but it never drew much attention. However, on Yoga Day, it was the AYUSH department that led the way," he said.

The success of Yoga Day has another aspect: the world needs good yoga teachers," he added.

In 'Mann ki Baat', the Prime Minister shares his thoughts with the nation. The programme aims to deliver the Prime Minister's voice to the general masses of the country since television connection is still not available everywhere, especially in the rural regions of remote locations.

The first edition of the programme was aired on October 3, 2014.
