Yoga on Alps: Ram Madhav spreads PM Modi's message on Swiss Alps

'Jungfraujoch', situated at a height of 11,371 feet in the Swiss Alps, hosted a unique event on Saturday organized by Indo-Swiss Center, Switzerland, where hundreds of travelers from all over the world performed Yoga to celebrate the ethos of it.

A premium edition of the original ancient Indian scripture "The Yogasutras of Patañjali, featuring the commentary of Vyasa", translated by an eminent Swiss scholar Acharya Vidyabhaskar was unveiled during the event by chief guest Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Madhav.

It boasts of housing the highest altitude mountain railway station in Europe. Visited by over a million travelers from all over the world every year, it has gained immense popularity among Indian visitors as well.

 

During the Yoga, about 5000 global tourists in Jungfraujoch got an opportunity to participate in the Suryanamaskar sessions that was conducted throughout the day, in a specially marked area on the vast glacier, surrounded by icy peaks.

Yoga on Top of Europe also attempted to set a world record of the Highest Elevation Public Yoga Event.

The event began with a traditional Indian Bharat Natyam dance in honor of Ganesha performed on the glacier by Tripurambika (Tina Laufer).

Eminent Swiss industrialist P. P. Hinduja of Indian origin graced the occasion.

Explaining the motivation behind organizing such an event, President of Indo- Swiss Center Govind Sovale said, "This event is an Indo Swiss joint venture, promoting Yoga, the gift of India to the world on the backdrop of natural beauty of Switzerland. The primary goal of Indo Swiss Center is enhancing India - Switzerland partnership in trade, technology, tourism, investments, governance and culture through innovative events and delegation visits. Yoga on Top of Europe is one such event that showcases the best of both the countries."

'Yoga on Top of Europe' is supported by Jungfrau Railway, the Embassy of India in Bern, Hinduja Foundation and River Engineering, India.
