Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Yousuf Pathan has hit the fastest ever Indian Premier League (IPL) half-century to lead his side to a four-wicket win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

The Indian player, who took 26 from one Dale Steyn over, reached 50 in just 15 balls - two deliveries quicker than the previous fastest half-centuries scored by Adam Gilchrist and Chris Gayle to lead Kolkata to second place in the points table.

According to Gulf News, chasing a below par 161 to win, Kolkata needed to triumph in 15.2 overs in order to leapfrog Chennai Super Kings in the standings and Pathan smashed seven sixes and five fours to score 72 in just 22 balls as the Knight Riders won in a thrilling 14.2 overs.

The Knight Riders went into the match unchanged, while for Sunrisers Jason Holder and Srikkanth Anirudha came in for Aaron Finch and Irfan Pathan, the report added.
