Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday proposed to consolidate skill initiatives for the youth in order to ensure that young people of the country are both educated and employable for jobs in the 21st century.
"India is one of the youngest countries of the world, with more than 54 percent of the country under 25 years of age. Our young people have to be both educated and employable for the jobs of the 21st century. The Prime Minister has explained on how 'Skill India' has to be closely associated with 'Make in India'. Yet today, less than five percent of our potential workforce gets formal skill training to be employable and stay employable," Jaitley said in his 2015-16 budget speech in Parliament.
"We will soon be launching a national skills mission through the Ministry for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, which will consolidate skill initiatives spread across several ministries and allow us to standardise procedures and outcomes of our skill councils," he added.
