For quite some time, sports dramas have been constant hits on the Indian box office, including the likes of 'Chak De!', 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', 'M.S. Dhoni', and 'Mary Kom'.
Following all these super successful ventures, director Omung Kumar of 'Mary Kom' fame is all set to direct another sports-based film, this time based on something similar to rugby.
The film, titled 'Yubi Lakpi' will be based on a local sport from the North East. It is local Manipuri sport and is played with coconuts and said to be similar to rugby.
Some even believe that Yubi Lakpi was the original version of rugby.
Director Kumar has been working on the film for the past two years. He said, "With Yubi Lakpi, we are tracing the journey of the Indian Rugby Team. Yes, India plays Rugby and it's high time the sport gets a pushup in the country. We're still working on the story and once complete, we will begin shooting."
The film will be shot in Manipur and London. Some portions of the film will be shot in Mauritius as well. The final shoot locations will be decided based on the story.
