Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has claimed that "conspiracies" hatched by national and international institutions led to the Pakistan Peoples Party's defeat in the general elections.
The News quoted Zardari, as saying that the PPP could have won 40-45 seats in the Punjab.
He added that his party would play the role of opposition with full vigour.
Zardari said he could not take part in the election campaign due to restrictions placed on the office of president. He added that he would take active part in politics after his presidential tenure expires.
The president added that all three of his children would be active in politics.
