The first around-the-world flight in a solar-powered plane, which had hoped to reach Hawaii, was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Japan due to bad weather.

A developing cold front over the ocean was blocking plane's path, which set off from China and so pilot Andre Borschberg decided to play safe by putting down in Nagoya, BBC News reported.

Solar Impulse was attempting to make the first circumnavigation of the globe by an aeroplane powered only by the sun.

The China-Hawaii stint was to be the seventh leg in the quest that began back in March from Abu Dhabi, UAE.
