Real Madrid's Sporting Director Zinedine Zidane has rubbished Sir Alex Ferguson's claims about Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard in his autobiography and called the criticism very strange.

According to the Mirror, Ferguson had insisted that Liverpool captain Gerrard had never been a top, top player.

Zidane said that Gerrard had been loyal to Liverpool throughout his career, which was great for them, adding that if he had wanted to leave four or five years ago, then every top club in Europe would have tried to sign him.

Zidane added that Alex Ferguson was obviously one of the most successful coaches the game has ever had, but he found his comments about Gerrard very strange, as to say he is not a top player was wrong.
