It's been a while now that BMW is testing the 2 Series, and now the company's official South African site has revealed the full official specification of the vehicle. It will be made available in three guise - 220i, 220d and performance oriented M235i. The German luxury carmaker hasn't released any official pictures of the car, but the company's official site has one configurator for the 2-Series. The configurator provides the summary of all standard and optional equipment as well as interior and exterior color combinations.
The performance oriented BMW M235i Coupe will be powered by the same 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder inline engine that also powers the company's 1 Series. The engine is capable of developing 322bhp of top power and 450Nm of torque. When the engine is mated to an automatic transmission, it accelerates to 100kmph from stand still in mere 4.8 seconds, however, it takes 0.2 seconds more in manual transmission. The vehicle has an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. For South African market, the BMW M235i is tagged at 503,079 South African Rand (INR 3117438.69).
The other model, BMW 220i will be powered by the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder unit that churns out maximum power output of 181bhp and 270Nm of top torque. The vehicle accelerates to 100kmph from stand still in mere 7 seconds and has a top speed of 235kmph. It is priced at 366,257 South African Rand (INR 2269591.34). The last model, BMW 220d Coupe gets the 2.0-litre diesel unit that develops 181bhp and 380Nm of torque. With automatic transmission, the vehicle sprints to 100kmph from stand still in mere 7.1 seconds and has a top speed of 235kmph. The BMW 220d is tagged at 393,000 South African Rand (INR 2435310.17).
The vehicle will be made available in seven different colors - Alpine white, Black Sapphire metallic, Estoril Blue metallic, Glacier Silver metallic, Melbourne Red metallic, Mineral Grey metallic and Mineral White metallic. The safety components include Acoustic seat belt warning, adaptive headlights, Automatic lock when driving away, driving assist, front passenger airbag deactivation, high beam assist, M Sport brakes, rear view camera, speed limit info, Park distance control for both front and rear and few others.
