German luxury carmaker, BMW will officially unveil its i-brand at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, where the company is expected to present its i-8 petrol-electric hybrid car. We reported earlier that BMW is considering the all electric i3 and i8 hybrid for the Indian market, and will showcase at-least one of the two at Automobile extravaganza. The company believes that such vehicles will perfectly suits the mega cities like Delhi and Mumbai that are facing pollution and congestion problems.
First unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW i8 is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre BMW twin-power turbo petrol engine with intelligent energy management system. This petrol engine churns out a maximum power output of 231bhp and 320Nm of torque, which is combined to an electric motor that develops 131bhp and 250Nm of torque. When it runs on both power sources, the BMW i8 accelerates to 100kmph from zero in a mere 4.5 seconds and returns a fuel economy of 40kmpl.
BMW i8 is expected to be priced around Rs. 1.5-1.6 crore and will be introduced in the Indian car market by the early 2015. Alongside BMW i8, the company will also showcase the 3 Series GT and 3rd Generation X5 at the 2014 Motor Show.
