BMW India has introduced a new entry-level 'Expedition' trim of its recently-launched X5 SUV. Priced at INR 64.90 Lakh (Ex. showroom, across India), the new base variant is INR 6 Lakh cheaper than the standard X5.

Mechanically, the trim is identical to the regular X5, as it also comes equipped with the same 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine, which churns out 255 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 560 Nm of peak torque between 1,500 – 3,000 rpm. It is coupled with a standard Steptronic 8-speed unit, unlike the Steptronic Sport version in the higher variants.

As the trim is substantially cheaper, it loses out on quite a bit of equipment as compared to the standard variants. It gets bi-xenon headlamps, replacing the usual adaptive LED units, misses the LED fog lamps too. The music system is a 9-speaker unit instead of the 16-speaker Harman Kardon system. Additionally, seat lumbar support, foldable third row seats, paddle shifters, launch control, BMW Apps, Navigation, 26-cm display with DVD, hard drive and handwriting recognition are some other features that have been left out.

In terms of exterior miss-outs, the BMW X5 Expedition does not get the titanium moulding on the bumpers, the black gloss finishing on the B and C pillars, matt chrome finishing on tail pipe and remote and titanium garnish on the trademark kidney-shaped front grille.

Quite recently, BMW also launched it's first hybrid model, the 7-series ActiveHybrid in India at INR 1.35 Crore (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The ActiveHybrid is another addition to the BMW's 7-series lineup available in the country, that already includes the 730 Ld, 740 Li, 750 Li and the top-of-the-line 760 Li. The flagship model follows the CBU (Complete Built Unit), and arrive as a direct import in the country.
