Fiat has started teasing their new roadster 124 through social media, the convertible is said to be revealing at the upcoming LA Motor Show. The show will be open for public from November 20-29th while media days will be from 17-19th November. Fiat is reviving the 124 nameplate, the original 124 Spider debuted in 1966 at the Turin Motor Show and the vehicle was discontinued in the 80s.
The vehicle was confirmed earlier this year by the FCA's (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) boss Sergio Marchionne. The car is reportedly based on the Mazda’s acclaimed new Miata’s platform. Like all the Miatas, the new chassis makes the current fourth-gen model agile and fun to drive; sharing the chassis will help Fiat to boast similar traits. Speaking of designing, Fiat 124 Spider will look nothing like the Mazda Miata/MX-5 and is most likely to get its design cues from the original Pininfarina designed model. Moreover, the Italian automaker has teased pictures which look like a postcard and the two images revealed, shows a cartoonish silhouette of the actual 2016 roadster.
Mechanically, it is obvious that Fiat will not share the Miata’s 2.0-liter SKYACTIV naturally aspirated four-cylinder motor. Instead, Fiat could offer the engine options from its current lineup, could be the 1.4-liter T-JET. Rumours has it, there will also be an Abarth version of this 124 Spider.
