Italian automaker Fiat has showcased the hatchback version of its Tipo sedan at the ongoing 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. The car is a bootless version of Tipo sedan, which will be Linea’s replacement for European markets and will act as the replacement for the Punto hatchback in the same countries. It is expected that Tipo sedan and hatchback variants will eventually make their way to Indian markets.
For now, Tipo sedan and hatchbacks are offered in left-hand drive configurations because of which they will not be introduced in markets like UK. It is only after Tipo is developed in Right-hand drive configuration that this car will be introduced in India. In other countries, Tipo will go on sale in November.
As far as aesthetics are concerned, Tipo hatchback’s front facade is quite similar to the sedan version but features a refreshed bumper. At the rear, the car flaunts a subtle spoiler, elongated taillamp cluster and concealed exhaust pipes.
In terms of the powerplant, Fiat Tipo hatchback will be offered with 1.3-liter and 1.6-liter Multijet diesel mills, which are capable of producing 95bhp and 120 bhp of peak power output, respectively. Taking on the duties of petrol powerplants will be a range of 1.6-litre and 1.4-litre turbocharged powerplants. The 1.6-litre unit is capable of producing 110bhp of power and the 1.4-litre petrol engine has been tweaked, so that it can be made available in two states of tune viz. 95bhp and 120bhp 1.4L turbo petrol engines.
The 1.6-litre petrol powerplant will come mated to a 6-speed automatic and other transmission options will include 5-speed manual and 6-speed manual. The 1.6-litre diesel powerplant might also be made available with a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox.
