Hyundai India has launched its first ever crossover, the i20 Active at Rs 6.38 lac (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The vehicle is based on carmaker’s last-year introduced Elite i20, and goes up against the likes of Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross and Volkswagen Cross Polo.
Like any other crossover available currently, the Active also looks like a beefier version of its hatch counterpart with some noticeable changes on it. The car gets full-body black plastic cladding, redesigned bumpers incorporating hexagonal grille and large circular fog lamps, new skid plate, roof rails and projector head-lamps with daytime running lamps. Additionally, the new 16’ inch diamond cut alloy wheels complements the overall rugged design well.

On the inside, the dashboard and other bits are identical to the Elite, except an option to choose between the interiors with a blue accent or with orange inserts, both which look absolutely funky. Also, you get a cooled glovebox, auto headlamps, sporty aluminum pedals and 8 speaker music system with USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity.
Hyundai has altered the ride height of the Active and raised it by 20 mm over the Elite i20 to give it a ground clearance figure of 190mm. Though engine options have been retained and features the same poweplants as its hatchback sibling. The petrol variants are powered by the same 1.2-litre Dual VTVT Kappa unit that puts out a maximum power of 82 bhp along with peak torque of 115 Nm. While the more-selling diesel trims will be powered by the trusted 1.4-litre U2 CRDi mill, good for 89 bhp and 220Nm peak torque.
